WHAT FITNESS IS REQUIRED?
We recommend a reasonable fitness level with some hill climb prep. Check out the map for distances and terrains which can be found on our Maps Page.
IS THERE MOBILE COVERAGE?
There is limited cell phone coverage on Kawakawa Station although you will find it in places on the walk. We provide each group of walkers with a VHS radio so that we always know where you are if you need us and we can communicate urgent messages to and from home.
IS THERE A MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM GROUP SIZE?
Kawakawa Station’s three-day walk can cater for groups of up to 11 people with a minimum of 2 people.
CAN NON-WALKERS BE TRANSPORTED?
Yes they can, please email hello@kawakawastation.co.nz to discuss your requirements.
ARE DOGS ALLOWED ON THE WALK?
Dogs are not allowed on Kawakawa Station.
WILL WE HAVE TO SHARE ACCOMMODATION?
You are likely to be with other walkers; however, we will make sure you do not have to share bedrooms with people not in your group. All common spaces are shared. If your group consists of a minimum of 8 people you will have the place to yourselves.
DO WE NEED TO BRING ANY FOOD OR DRINKS?
The Kawakawa Station Walk is fully catered. You will be provided with morning and afternoon tea and all provisions for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including dessert. You may like to bring nibbles and your choice of beverage for before dinner but there will be plenty of food.
CAN DIETARY REQUIREMENTS BE CATERED FOR?
We can cater for special dietary requirements by prearrangement. Please email hello@kawakawastation.co.nz to discuss how we can best meet your needs.

Children are very welcome at Kawakawa Station. We would recommend that the walk is not suitable for those under the age of 8 years of age, however you know your children best.
HOW LONG WILL THE WALK TAKE ON DAY THREE?
The final day’s walk will take approximately 3 hours. You will have plenty of time to have a shower and cuppa back at the Farm Cottage before you head for home. We are approximately 2 hours from Wellington so we recommend booking any flights for late afternoon or evening.

WHAT TO BRING
We recommend tramping boots or sturdy trainers with good tread and tramping poles
Day pack, lunchbox, drink bottle (we recommend 2litres in hot weather), sunhat, sunblock, lip balm with a good SPF, insect repellent
Warm & weatherproof clothing as the weather can be changeable on the coast no matter what time of the year
Camera / smart phone
Swimwear for cooling off in the river or sea (towels are provided at each accommodation)
Sleeping bag
Toiletries and other personal items
Alcoholic beverages for all three days
A walking pole (optional)
A personal locator beacon is optional. Each group will carry a VHF radio to keep in contact with your hosts over the 3 days. You will radio when you arrive at each accommodation and when you leave the following morning. This allows us to know where you are, at all times, should you need help with anything.
Please try to keep your luggage to a minimum as there is limited space on our transportation vehicles. This would be one medium sized bag plus sleeping bag per person.
CANCELLATION DUE TO WEATHER
We watch the weather carefully around here. If we see a weather pattern that will likely affect your ability to do your walk, this would be mainly due to the river flooding and access being cut off, we will contact you as early as possible to talk through options or reschedule your walk. No refund of deposit will be issued at this time.
